About The Project

This project was a new 76,000 sq ft, 2-story elementary school in St. Mary’s County, Maryland. The building was constructed of masonry CMU bearing walls and a structural steel, bar joists and metal deck roof structure. The exterior is brick veneer, with a high reflective built-up roofing system and standing seam metal roofing. Interior finishes consist of painted CMU and drywall, acoustical ceilings, VCT flooring with epoxy flooring in the bathroom areas and quarry tile in the kitchen. The building has classrooms, a computer room, art, music, library, gymnasium, stage, cafeteria and full kitchen facilities as well as the administrative areas.

The LEED Gold certified building consisted of various “Green” features such as cisterns which harvest rainwater for toilets, vegetative roofing, sunshades, high efficiency lighting and HVAC systems, as well as photovoltaic and wind turbine power generation.
