Scheibel Construction was awarded the contract for the replacement of Northern High School by the Board of Education for Calvert County Public Schools in Owings, Maryland.  The contract will be over $70 million and will be phased over the next three years.  The new 213, 018 square foot high school is a three-story structural steel building with metal stud exterior walls and decorative CMU veneer.  The mechanical system is primarily water source heat pumps with a 440 well geothermal well field.  After construction of the high school is complete, demolition of the existing high school and separate gymnasium will proceed, allowing the construction of an adjoining administration building and new bus loops and parking lots.  The project will be LEED Silver certified by the United States Green Building Council.
