Since John A. Scheibel founded Scheibel Construction in 1946, the company has grown from its first project (a service station in Washington, D.C.) to a leading general contractor in the Washington D.C. metropolitan region. As the company evolved, the corporate philosophy was established to work hard, give an honest effort, a competitive price, and develop a superior product.
History
1960s: Expanding into Government Work
Scheibel Construction completed local government projects, including the Prince George’s County Health Department. They also began federal government work, including military projects. In 1968, Rudy Scheibel retired, and Charles R. Bailey and his wife, Kay, took ownership of the company.
1970s: Moving into Healthcare
The company entered the healthcare sector with projects like the Cancer Research Center at Howard University and renovations at Malcolm Grow Hospital. They also installed some of the first MRI facilities for General Electric and continued expanding federal contracts.
1980s: Government and Classified Projects
Scheibel managed significant government contracts, including the DNA Casino Facility and the Special Missions Hangar at Joint Base Andrews. John R. Bailey and wife Jerrie L. Bailey joined the company in 1982 and later bought it in 1996, continuing the focus on healthcare, retail, and government work.
2000-2010s: New Markets and Innovation
In 2009 and 2010, Robbie Bailey and Kristen Bailey Doty joined the company. Under fourth-generation leadership, Scheibel expanded its portfolio to meet evolving industry needs.
